Louisiana Guardsman Spc. Blaine M. Marusak, of St. Martinville, La., pulls phone line through one of the towers at the Victory Base Complex in Baghdad. As part of the Base Defense Operations Center, C Company, of the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team's Special Troops Battalion, began running the line to replace the existing "crank phones" and radios, which will not only increase communication time to the BDOC, but also reduce the man-power needed to operate, update and maintain radios at towers on VBC to help set the installation up for success in the absence of U.S. troops.
