Members of the New York National Guard's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or High Explosive Enhanced Response Force Package remove simulated casualties from an incident area during a joint interagency training event May 3 in support of emergency responders from the Fire Department of the city of New York and the New York National Guard. The daylong training exercise involved the joint interagency response to notional CBRNE incident in a subway station. The New York National Guard also deployed and trained the state's 2nd Civil Support Team and CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Package to learn tactics, techniques and procedures from the FDNY. Responding fire departments from across the five boroughs participated in the training, providing a foundation for improved liaison and interoperability between New York State's military forces and the emergency responders in New York City. The CERFP provided search and extraction, patient decontamination and medical triage as part of the FDNY incident command exercise response. About 500 Soldiers, Airmen and volunteers of the New York Guard participated in the training. (U.S. Army photo/Lt. Col. Richard Goldenberg)
