A German flag hangs in the flight deck window of a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircraft Nov. 1, 2012, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. The flag belonged to German air force Maj. Sebastian Demitz, a pilot assigned to the U.S. Air Force 14th Airlift Squadron and a member of a pilot exchange program between the United States and Germany. The aircraft's crew was to fly to March Air Reserve Base, Calif., to pick up utility company trucks for transport to New York state in support of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Sandy formed in the western Caribbean Sea and affected Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas before making landfall in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt.
