U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Joseph Anderson, commanding general, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson, pins the Purple Heart on U.S. Army Spc. Patrick Peirce, native of Fayetteville, Ark., at Combat Outpost Fortress Aug. 5, 2012. Peirce, a forward observer assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, was one of three soldiers Anderson presented the Purple Heart to during his two-day visit of the 4th BCT in eastern Afghanistan as part of battlefield circulation.
