Lt. Col. James Bierman, battalion commander, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, attends a meeting with the mayor of Hadithah and local sheiks in Sagrah, Iraq, May 1. During the meeting, Lt. Col. Bierman expressed his intent and hopes for the area. 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines is deployed with Regimental Combat Team 2, II Marine Expeditionary Force (FWD) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq (MNF-W) to develop the Iraqi Security Forces, facilitate the development of official rule of law through democratic government reforms, and continue the development of a market based economy centered on Iraqi Reconstruction.
