A Marine of 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment (1/3), sets up a SATCOM device to establish communication outside of a town, May 1. Marines will search the town with the Iraqi Police. 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines is deployed with Regimental Combat Team 2, II Marine Expeditionary Force (FWD) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq (MNF-W) to develop the Iraqi Security Forces, facilitate the development of official rule of law through democratic government reforms, and continue the development of a market based economy centered on Iraqi Reconstruction.
