Marines with 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion make plans and preparations to deploy from the well deck of the USS Rushmore off the coast of Camp Pendleton and land on the base's beach, Sept. 28 during Exercise Dawn Blitz. The amphibious tracked vehicles can go from ship to shore with more than 20 combat-ready Marines or carry two tons of cargo. Dawn Blitz trained Navy and Marine units serving under 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade to operate together in any environment -- from combat zones to natural disaster stricken areas -- worldwide.
