South Dakota National Guard airmen and soldiers comprising one of three Quick Reaction Forces in Fort Pierre and Pierre pause near the Expo Center for a photo during training June 5. Teams trained on how to tether and release 1-ton sandbags to a hovering UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. QRFs are prepared to place sandbags at trouble areas along the levee where high water prohibits access by other vehicles from doing so, in the event a levee is compromised. The S.D. National Guard is working with local, state and federal agencies around the clock during this historic flooding event to protect homes, property and people of South Dakota.
