Nago City officials and Japanese media personnel prepare for take-off in an MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft Oct. 16 on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma to get a closer view of the aircraft’s flight capabilities during a tour of the air station. The visit provided Nago City officials and Japanese media the opportunity to experience the functions of the MV-22B Osprey by giving them the opportunity to take a 45 minute flight on the aircraft. The Osprey is a unique aircraft that has the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft and the ability to take off and land like a helicopter. It has been used in operations and exercises across the Asia-Pacific region, including Operation Damayan in 2013. The Osprey is assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Brittany A.
