Caroline B. Kennedy, center right, and Lt. Gen. John Wissler carry a wreath together at the Cornerstone of Peace monument during a memorial ceremony June 23 at the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park in Itoman, Okinawa, Japan. The wreath was a way to pay respect to fallen U.S. service members who fought during the Battle of Okinawa. The monument holds the names of more than 12,000 Americans and 200,000 Japanese who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the 82-day battle. Kennedy is the U.S. ambassador to Japan and daughter of the 35th president of the U.S., John F. Kennedy. Wissler is the commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force.
