Army Capt. Mary Avriette, veterinary officer for the 82nd Civil Affairs Battalion, conducts a rectal palpation on a cow to check to see if the cow is pregnant as part of a three-day Veterinary Civic Action Program, or VETCAP across the farming communities of Metapán, El Salvador, April 9. The VETCAP allowed Salvadoran veterinarians, with U.S. assistance, to strengthen their capabilities as well as ensure the health of livestock, and enhance agriculture and economic stability in the Santa Ana Department.
