Sgt. Maj. Samuel Heyward Jr., the sergeant major of the 1st Marine Corps District, uncases the organizational colors before the start of the Tunnel to Towers run, Sept. 29. Tunnel to Towers, a 5-kilometer run, is held annually in honor of firefighter Stephen Siller. Siller, who ran to the World Trade Center through the Battery Tunnel with all his gear on during the attacks on 9/11, ultimately lost his life during his attempt to save others.
