U.S. Army Sgt. Asa Walz, a forward observer assigned to 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery Regiment, Massachusetts Army National Guard, discusses training with U.S. joint terminal attack controllers (JTACs) during Justified Accord 2026 field artillery air-to-ground deconfliction scenarios at Bearing Point 2, Laresoro, Kenya, March 6, 2026. Walz indicated the training improves multinational coordination and enhances integration of air and ground operations during joint operations. JA26 provided an opportunity for JTAC teams and forward observers to rehearse communication procedures, target coordination and airspace deconfliction with partner forces, strengthening multinational interoperability and improving the safe integration of air and ground fires during joint operations.
JA26 increases multinational interoperability in support of humanitarian assistance and crisis response, prepares regional partners for United Nations and African Union missions, and builds readiness for the U.S. joint force. Led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), and hosted in Djibouti, Kenya, and Tanzania, JA26 is U.S. Africa Command’s largest exercise in East Africa.
