U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to 1st Armored Division kicked off Torch Week with a 3.2-mile division run followed by competitive events including basketball, dodgeball and other team-based competitions at Fort Bliss, Texas. Torch Week is an annual 1st Armored Division tradition commemorating the division’s role in the World War II invasion of North Africa in 1942, known as Operation Torch. Throughout the week, Iron Soldiers honor the division’s legacy through physically demanding and competitive events that strengthen cohesion, reinforce resilience and build the disciplined teams required to maintain readiness and fight and win the nation’s wars.
