U.S. Army Soldiers from across Fort Bliss participate in the Torch Week combatives competition at the Joshua W. Soto Physical Fitness Center, Fort Bliss, Texas, March 2, 2026. The competition highlights the Army Combatives Program, which develops close-quarters fighting skills, builds physical and mental toughness, and enhances Soldier lethality. Torch Week is an annual 1st Armored Division tradition commemorating the division’s role in the World War II invasion of North Africa in 1942, known as Operation Torch. Throughout the week, Iron Soldiers honor the division’s legacy through physically demanding and competitive events that strengthen cohesion, reinforce resilience and build disciplined teams prepared to fight and win the nation’s wars.
