U.S. Army and Royal Australian Artillery Soldiers compete in the Best Redleg Competition with the Combat Water Survival Assessment (CWSA) at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Jan. 21, 2026. The CWSA evaluates a Soldier's ability to function and survive in water while in uniform. These events consist of, but are not limited to, a 15-Meter swim, a 3-Meter jump, and treading water. The Best RedLeg competition serves as the region’s premier artillery event and evaluates physical fitness, core Soldier skills and military occupational specialty proficiency to determine the best leaders from across the Pacific.
