In 1991, the Defense Communications Agency gained a combat support mission to ensure the warfighter, under threat in all four corners of the globe, got rapid, reliable and secure information critical to mission accomplishment. With that new mission, DCA became The Defense Information Systems Agency. Within a year of the change, DISA was directed through the Defense Management Report Decision 918 to assume control of the Defense Information Infrastructure. Today, DISA leads the nation into the future of communications by connecting command and control to the battlefield, continuously striving to modernize, campaigning and ensuring lethality.
