On 9/11, DISA responded immediately to the terrorist attacks on New York City’s World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, PA. In those desperate moments on a clear September morning, DISA ensured secure, reliable and efficient communications between the nation’s most critical military and civilian agencies. Following the attacks, DISA provided combat support in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom: increasing satellite bandwidth over 800%, DSN usage over 400% and connecting Secure Internet requirements of almost 300%. Under unimaginable constraints, DISA provided critical support to the defense of our nation on the homeland.
