Soldiers assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade deactivated its 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, and replaced it with the reactivated 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, on Grafenwohr, Germany, Jan. 8th, 2026. The move is part of a modernization push called the Army Transformation Initiative, which will see the service transition from infantry brigade combat teams to mobile brigade combat teams. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army’s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains with NATO allies and partners to strengthen interoperability and readiness. (U.S. Army video by Sgt. Christopher Sanchez)
