Soldiers and Airmen from across New England conduct a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Enhanced Response Force Package (CERF-P) disaster response exercise at the Rhode Island Fire Academy, July 17, 2025. The joint force included servicemembers from the Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island National Guard who trained for three days in a realistic environment to respond to a simulated chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear incident.
The New England CERF-P team, part of Federal Emergency Management Agency Region 1, demonstrated life-saving capabilities including urban search and extraction, mass casualty decontamination, medical triage and treatment, fatality search and rescue, and command and control operations. Designed as a multi-state, 200-member force, the CERF-P can deploy within six hours of a real-world disaster, reinforcing the National Guard’s ability to rapidly support civil authorities.
