    U.S. Coast Guard District 1

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod hoists a mariner from the disabled sailing vessel PORTO approximately 255 miles southeast of Chatham, Massachusetts, Nov. 21, 2024. The Coast Guard launched an MH-60 and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft after the PORTO reported loss of rudder control and engine while carrying no survival gear and only a handheld VHF radio for communication. The crew of the nearby sailing vessel Life of Reily III remained on scene and maintained contact with the mariner until Coast Guard crews arrived. The MH-60 crew transported the mariner safely to Hyannis Regional Airport. (U.S. Coast Guard video Air Station Cape Cod)
