On Oct. 16, 2025, President Donald Trump directed U.S. military forces assigned to U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) to conduct a lethal kinetic strike on a semi-submersible vessel in international waters that was being operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility. Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was involved in illicit narcotics smuggling, transiting along a known narco-trafficking route, and carrying narcotics. Two male narco-terrorists were killed and two surviving narco-terrorists were returned to their countries of origin. No U.S. military forces were harmed.
