The crew is instructed to gather gear and grab a bite to eat while Wag Dodge scouts a line to engage the fire and tie in with Jim Harrison. After a brief exchange with Jim, Wag decides to lead the crew side hill, across the drainage on the south slope, to the river bottom where they can engage in an anchor and flank strategy. As they cross a finger ridge near the bottom of the drainage Wag see’s that the fire has spotted below the crew, and he decides at that point to reverse course and start angling the crew back up the drainage.
