The AFWERX Refinery is a fast-paced innovation accelerator designed for Airmen and Guardians. Selected teams join a 2–6 week cohort where they receive mentorship, stakeholder connections, and a curriculum inspired by “lean startup” principles. Through expert guidance—from acquisition and sustainment advisors to policy and engineering experts—participants refine prototypes, build partnerships, and create a 6–12 month adoption plan ("flight plan"). Alumni continue to receive support post-program, ensuring hurdles are addressed during fielding. The goal: develop world-class innovators and transition tactical prototypes into operational use across the force. (U.S. Air Force video by Dennis Stewart)
