Okinawa Memorial Day, marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa during World War II, is observed with a ceremony in Itoman, Okinawa, Japan, June 23, 2025. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Okinawa Denny Tamaki, the Japan Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Roger Turner, commanding general of the III Marine Expeditionary Force. The Battle of Okinawa resulted in the deaths of both Japanese and American military personnel and civilians.
