    124th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment

On July 3, 1994, Tropical Storm Alberto unleashed unprecedented rainfall across Georgia, recording 21 inches in just 24 hours in Americus, Georgia. By July 6, 1994, the Georgia Army National Guard opened six armories as shelters for flood victims. By the end of July, over 3,600 Guardsmen from across the state joined forces for Operation Crested River. Their mission: to help Georgians in need. U.S. Army Master Sgt. Christopher Aldred recalls how this event influenced his decision to join the military in the second part of this series.
