Makya Stell, assigned to the 205th Network Signal Company of the 45th Field Artillery Brigade, claimed victory in the annual "NetWars" competition at the Cyber Shield training event, June 8, 2024, at the Virginia National Guard State Military Reservation, Virginia Beach. Stell became the first woman to win the “NetWars” games as an individual player. SANS NetWars emphasizes the practical application of hands-on cybersecurity training, offering participants a cyber range to apply their knowledge in a controlled environment before entering exercise week. Cyber Shield is the Department of Defense's largest and longest-running cyber exercise, bringing together around 900 National Guard and Army Reserve Soldiers, Airmen, civilian cybersecurity experts, and international partners.
