GROTON, Conn. (July, 2010) Video depicting USS Missouri (SSN 780) prior to commissioning. This video includes an interview with Command Master Chief Reginald Brown, chief of the boat and scense of the crew manning command and control stations. The U.S. Navy is will commission its newest submarine, an attack vessel named after the Show-Me State at a ceremony in Groton, Connecticut. The fourth Navy ship to be dubbed Missouri, the 7800-ton Virginia-class sub was built for strike warfare -- as well as for special operations, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, battle-group support and mine-warfare missions. The sub, almost 380 feet in length, will house a crew of about 135. It's equipped with a reactor that will require no refueling during the planned life of the ship. The last USS Missouri was a battleship best remembered as the site where U.S. and allied officers accepted the unconditional surrender of Japan at the end of World War Two. Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton will deliver the commissioning ceremony's principal address. (U.S. Navy video/Released)
