#DTRA’s Cooperative Threat Reduction program and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GPH) held a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of a National Virtual Training Center (NVTC) in Silang, Cavite in the Philippines on February 21, 2024.

The DTRA-designed and-constructed NVTC will provide a platform for the Philippines to improve the safety and security of public and veterinary health facilities and chemical security best practices. This effort will also enhance biosafety, biosecurity, detection of pathogens and chemicals of security concern in the country and region by providing a training facility to enhance the training curriculum.

The facility will increase the capacity and capability of trainings across multiple disciplines of chemical, biological, and counter WMD missions with the ability to include radiological and nuclear security. With the capability to host virtual training events, the training center is designed to serve the entire archipelago. Video cameras in classrooms will allow trainings to be distributed remotely. Additionally, virtual reality training capability is available onsite as well as remotely.

Through the construction of this facility, DTRA continues to strengthen their relationship with the Philippines. DTRA’s top priority is the safety and well-being of Filipino citizens. The collaboration between the two nations aims to foster a secure environment and promote cooperation. The U.S. government is committed to working closely with our Philippine counterparts to address any concerns and maintain all Filipinos' safety.
