This year marks the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 -- most commonly known as D-Day. Sainte-Mère-Église, strategically positioned along route N13, played a vital role in the Normandy landings, with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions liberating it early on June 6, 1944, marking one of the first towns freed during the invasion.
