Recruits participate in the Official Physical Fitness Assessment at U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command (RTC), Great Lakes, Illinois. In order to graduate from RTC, Recruits must pass the official PFA. The assessment tests the recruits in cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular endurance with push-ups, forearm plank, and a one-and-a-half mile run. Boot camp is approximately 10 weeks and all enlistees into the U.S. Navy begin their careers at the command. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy’s only boot camp.
