Hundreds of students from the Siouxland area got a firsthand look at applied aviation science during the Siouxland Aviation Festival at the Sioux City airport this week.
The event was held in coordination with the Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling Wing and the Mid America Museum of Aviation & Transportation.
As part of the Northwest Iowa STEM advisory council, the Aviation Festival allowed students to explore careers in aviation and vocations related to aviation.
During the event students toured a KC-135 Stratotanker air refueling aircraft where they talked to crew members about the mission of the unique air refueling aircraft.
The Iowa Air Guard unit had other aviation career related vocations on display including airport fire fighters and air transportation.
About 200 hundred area students from 19 different schools attended the free event on Thursday.
