A U.S. Marine Corps crew of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167, conduct a close air support training mission aboard a UH-1Y Huey helicopter during Exercise Northern Strike 23, flying from Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, Alpena, Michigan, to the Steelgate air-to-ground gunnery range, Grayling, Michigan, Aug 16, 2023. U.S. Marine Corps Capts. Matthew McLellan and Eric Lambert pilot the helicopter and launch the 2.75-inch rockets. Aerial gunners, Sgt. Benjamin Seman and Cpl. Brennan Conley fire the GAU-17 minigun from the helicopter’s right door and the GAU-21 .50 caliber machine gun from the helicopter’s left door. Exercise Northern Strike 2023 is a premier reserve component training event that integrates both U.S. and partner nation readiness training to build interoperability and strengthen partnerships in an all-domain environment.
