Local and international media were invited to Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England to fly on a KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft air refueling mission in support of Arctic Challenge Exercise 2023, June 6, 2023.
The exercise is the premiere Nordic large-force, live-fly field training exercise that focuses on advancing Arctic security initiatives and enhancing interoperability throughout the High North.
By training and conducting realistic exercises in the High North, like ACE23, U.S. forces and those of allied and partner nations hone skills, fine-tune interoperability, nurture key relationships and acclimate to the inherent challenges posed by fighting in the Arctic’s extreme conditions.
Flag-level training in U.S European Command’s area of responsibility creates a significant measure of autonomy for European partners and U.S. forces to exercise high-intensity and global peer competitor combat scenarios.
The exercise occurs every two years and uses the cross-border training area between Finland, Norway and Sweden.
