U.S. Marines assigned to Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conducted a bilateral nighttime live fire exercise during Iron Fist 23 in Hijudai, Japan, Feb. 22, 2023. The training allowed the U.S. Marines and soldiers from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force to share tactics and work to together to secure contested terrain. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the JGSDF, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
