Athletes from around the world came together last year to compete in the Olympics in Tokyo, including first-timers and those who've made multiple appearances at the games.
Shori Hamada, a captain in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, made history when she won the gold medal in judo in the women's half-heavyweight division, becoming the first member of the Japan Self-Defense Force's Physical Training School to do so.
In this video, Hamada talks about the training she underwent to prepare for the games, and how she felt when she took home the gold.
