U.S. Marines, assigned to the 4th Civil Affairs Group, Hialeah, Florida, and an Afghan interpreter, engage with Afghan families as part of the engagement team visits at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, Jan. 18, 2022. The civil affairs Marines were embedded with the Task Force McCoy Engagement Teams to assist with facilitating information and programs to the Afghan guest. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
