U.S Marines with 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, explain their task to accommodate at least 1,000 guests, by maintaining power generators 24 hours a day, throughout the resettlement efforts. Without any prior knowledge, the Marines had to adapt and adjust their capabilities and expertise for this mission as part of Operations Allies Welcome on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, Nov. 4, 2021. Pioneer City housed Afghan guests who were awaiting resettlement processing from 1 Oct until 5 Nov 2021. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
