On, Dec. 7, 1941, Private Ralph Yeager was running from the Hickam flight line when a bomb landed behind him, bouncing shrapnel off his helmet. Eighty years later, Yeager's granddaughter, Col Athanasia Shinas, serves as commander of the 624th RSG, her office just steps from where her grandfather was on that fateful day.
