It has been 20 years since terrorists attacked the United States on September 11th, 2001. U.S. Army Garrison Japan hosted its 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Camp Zama’s Community Recreation Center to commemorate the tragic event and honor those who died in the attacks.

During the ceremony, Soldiers and civilians read narratives that recounted the last moment of four commercial aircraft that were hijacked and crashed in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.. A representative from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9612 presented a memorial wreath, which U.S. Army Garrison Japan Commander COL Christopher Tomlinson, and USAG-J Command Sgt. Maj. Justin Turner then laid in tribute.

The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence and the playing of taps, paying tribute to the nearly 3,000 victims of 9/11 and the service members who lost their lives in the Global War on Terrorism.
