A package of homemade explosives is detonated during a training exercise at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., June 11, 2021.Explosive Ordnance Disposal Airmen from the 177th Fighter Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, along with civilian contractors, trained the 21st Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team (21st WMD-CST), New Jersey National Guard, on homemade explosives, the materials that are used, the effects they produce, and to recognize the signs of test sites where explosives have been detonated. The 21st WMD-CST supports civil authorities at man-made or natural disasters by identifying chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear substances, assess the consequences, and advises on response measures.
