The U.S. Air Force Academy’s Cadet Summer Research Program recently made its return to the Air Force Civil Engineer Center at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, following a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s program involves a group of cadets working with AFCEC team members over a period of five weeks before heading back to Colorado Springs. While at AFCEC’s Civil Engineer Laboratory, cadets are working on projects that use biology to solve civil engineering problems, such as using bacteria to harden and stabilize soil and to break down chemicals using an eco-friendly approach.
