    “I am the flag of the United States of America;
    My name is “Old Glory”.
    I fly atop the world’s tallest buildings,
    I stand watch in American’s halls of justice,
    I fly majestically over great institutions of learning,
    I stand guard with the greatest military power in the world.
    Look up! And see me.” – Poem by Howard Schnauber
    According to Library of Congress, the American flag is a centerpiece in our nation’s history. June 14, 2021, marks the 244th anniversary of the adoption of the current American flag design. On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress took a break from writing the Articles of Confederation and passed a resolution stating that “the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white,” and that “the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” In 1916, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, declared June 14 Flag Day, but it wasn’t until 1946 that it was officially passed by an act of Congress.
    Today, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point recognizes the American flag as a symbol of hope and freedom, just as it was when it was first created.
