The 379th Expeditionary Medical Group at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar began Operation Moonshot, an initiative to begin the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to members living and working on the base, March 31, 2021. Working on a tiered system set by the Department of Defense, those at risk of coming into contact with COVID-19 positive cases on a day-to-day basis received their vaccines first starting in January with large scale volunteer vaccinations beginning in March. The 379th EMDG's goal was to administer the vaccine to 900 people per-day by April 2, 2021.
