U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Survivalman 1st Class Michael G. Odom and his fellow Coast Guardsmen recall the events that led to his rescue during individual media interviews and a press conference at Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Jan. 25, 1995. Odom rescued three crew members of the sailing vessel Mirage in rough seas before the HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter he was in was forced to leave him behind in the Atlantic Ocean Jan. 24, 1995, due to a faulty hoist.
