U.S. Air Force Capt. Michael Pruitt, part of an Independent Readiness Review Team, gives an orientation briefing on the Inertial Upper Stage (IUS) and Payload Assist Module-S (PAM-S) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, March 12, 1990. The IUS and PAM-S are attached to the two upper stages of the Ulysses, a spacecraft designed to explore the polar regions of Sun, is the scheduled payload for Space Transport System 41 (STS), the eleventh mission of the Space Shuttle Discovery.
