141120-N-N0701-0001 NORFOLK (Nov. 20, 2014) A U.S. Fleet Forces Command-sponsored video production showcases how U.S. Navy-funded research is used to gain a better understanding of the Atlantic sturgeon, which is an endangered species found in freshwater rivers, estuaries, and oceans. This research, through the use of tagging and tracking methods, is used to gain a better understanding of their behavior, range, and seasonal occurrence in areas where the Navy conducts training and testing activities. The “Stewards of the Sea: Defending Freedom, Protecting the Environment” outreach program is designed to showcase the Navy’s efforts to monitor and mitigate the potential environmental effects of activities without jeopardizing the safety of our Sailors or impacting military readiness.
