Synopsis
NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Estonia participated in Exercise Spring Storm 2020, an annual drill in which Estonia tasks its conscripts with mobilising and repelling a simulated threat. The UK-led Battlegroup played the opposing force, sending its armour and troops to a training ground in central Estonia. Read more about the exercise here: http://nato.int/cps/en/natohq/news_175559.htm Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Estonia reduced the scale of this year’s exercise and limited it to the central training grounds. The only international troops participating came from the Battlegroup, further limiting the risk of spreading the virus. Footage, filmed by the Estonian Defence Forces, includes drone shots of tanks on the move, shots of Estonian and British troops in combat and soundbites from Major Chris Jose, British Army.

Our other mission is to act as an enemy force for the conscripts who are going through their major test exercise at the end of their training cycle.” 16. What’s really good is to learn from the Estonians how they operate in this environment, because back in the UK we don’t have forested environments on this sort of scale. So it’s been useful for us to learn as some of the skills that the Estonian Defence Force have developed over the years.”
