Veteran SFC Louis Rinaldi served in the Gimlets during the Korean War. Although he passed in 1984, his grandson, 2LT Lou Rinaldi, 1-38 IN, 4ID, carries on his Army legacy. 2LT Rinaldi passed along the memory of his grandfather through an interview with Gimlet 6 in honor of #GimletWeek.
SFC Rinaldi grew up during the Great Depression in New York. He was drafted into service in 1950 where he immediately deployed as a reinforcement to Task Force Smith as a part of Bravo Company. He quickly rose in the ranks from Private to Sergeant First Class while deployed as the “next man up”.
Influenced by SFC Rinaldi’s exceptional service combined with the devastation of the attacks of 9-11, 2LT Rinaldi answered the call to arms. Etched in his DNA, he is honored to do his part to prevent another 9-11 and maybe even wear his grandfather’s CIB.
Thank you, 2LT Rinaldi, for sharing your grandfather’s story with us for Gimlet History Week...and thank you for continuing your family's great service to our nation. Good luck at Ranger School!
