A multi-agency team conducts the first in-flight test of a Negatively Pressurized Conex (NPC) aboard a C-17 Globemaster III, assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing, Joint Base Charleston, S.C., April 30, 2020. The Agile Combat Support Directorate’s (ACS), Air Force CBRN Defense Systems Branch (AFLCMC/WNU) partnered with the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense (JPEO CBRND), along with many other organizations across the Dept of Defense and Academia tested the NPC for potential use as a transport module for individuals infected with the COVID-19 virus and other highly infectious diseases. The NPC was rapidly developed and designed to enable safe transport of up to 28 passengers, as well as teams of medical professionals to medical facilities around the globe.
